Priyo Tech is an EdTech company that has developed a portable computer Solar-lab-in-a-bag that can convert normal classrooms into temporal computer labs empowering teachers to improve the quality of education by equipping them with digital literacy skills on how they can integrate ICT within their classrooms to adequately prepare students for the fourth-industrial-Revolution using Internet-of-Things (IOT). This in-turn empowers learners to improve their grades, gain university entry, and are prepared to take opportunities for the Jobs of tomorrow in Big Data, Block chain and Artificial intelligence. We do this by providing schools with digital resources such as E-learning digital library, tablets, and a solar charging station.
We provide access to skills training in technology to under-resourced schools and communities in rural and peri-urban areas by integrating Information Communication Technology (ICT) & digital training into the education system and linking job seekers to online employment opportunities as to create employment, reduce poverty and improve the economic status of the country.
Why? What lit the spark
In south Africa only 40.9% of public schools have a computer lab, and sadly only 28% of those labs are being utilized because majority of teachers are not computer literate according to (SAIRR) https://www.htxt.co.za/2016/03/07/sairr-only-4-in-10-sa-public-schools-have-a-computer-facility/ This means that 72% of the children that are currently in school are not being equipped with skills that will allow them to compete for the jobs-of-tomorrow furthermore there are currently 1.8 billion young people (aged 10-24) worldwide who will not have the skills necessary to participate in the emerging global workforce if we do not rethink the current education system in emerging countries.
We train in school youth living in rural and per-urban, out of school children in rural, peri-urban and refugee camps who do not have access to conventional means of teaching and learning. Teachers and unemployed women who were excluded in becoming part of the digital era because of the past education system.
To date we have already trained 5000 teachers and students and impacted a total of 883 students, 150 of our students have received Learnership opportunity to further their careers, 15 are currently employed and 3 have established their own businesses. In June 2017 we were given 88 grade 8 students who had failed mathematics we taught them on how to use the E-School App and all 88 of them passed and are currently doing grade 10 as of 2019.
Our development plans
We would like to scale and reach 48 schools and centres by 2019 which equates to 18000 lives impacted.
